The First Biennial Conference of the Chinese Rhetoric Society of the World & International Conference on Rhetorics 11-15, July, 2008 The First Biennial Conference of the Chinese Rhetoric Society of the World (CRSW) & International Conference on Rhetorics will be held at Qufu Normal University in Qufu, Shandong Province, China, from 11th to 15th of July, 2008. The conference of CRSW will bring together many specialists in rhetoric from China, USA, Japan, Korea and other countries. The society calls for papers that focus on theory and practice of rhetoric, especially one comparative rhetoric. The theme of the conference is “The Developing World-wide Chinese Rhetoric Studies”. Subthemes include: 1. Comparative Rhetoric (comparative studies on Chinese and the occidental rhetoric, and comparative studies on Asian rhetoric); 2. Comparative Studies on Confucian and Taoist Rhetorical Thought and Occidental Classical Rhetoric; 3. Modern Chinese Comparative Rhetoric; 4. Discourse Rhetoric; 5. Rhetoric of Journalism and Communication (rhetorical studies in the fields of news reporting, advertising, web writing, mobile phone short message, etc.); 6. Teaching of Rhetoric (Studies on the teaching of Chinese rhetoric, rhetoric of Chinese as a foreign/second language, and rhetoric of English and other foreign languages); Research papers on other aspects of language use are also welcome. Proposals should be submitted with an abstract in Chinese (300 characters maximum) or English (350 words maximum). Proposal presentation should be in Chinese or English for 20 minutes. Group proposals are welcome subject to the following conditions. The group must consist of 3 or 4 speakers dealing with a common theme in order to form a coherent panel. One of the speakers shall be responsible for running the panel. Each paper must stand on its own as an independent presentation. Each speaker submits a proposal for his or her own paper; such proposals must specify the group they represent.
